2000 women - many of whom were survivors of rape - were tested for HIV during the five years following the 1994 genocide. Out of these women, 80 per cent were found to be HIV-positive. Many were not sexually active before the genocide.

Life Center Project: 
The Life Center Project exists to extend the love of Christ in a practical way to those in extreme poverty.
 

Through the Life Center Project we are:

  • Training former prostitutes, Widows and Orphans from the 94’ Genocide to create beautiful hand made items.  We then work with a U.S. based company to sell these items, thus giving the participants a feeling of pride and also income.
  • Providing basic computer and software training.  After completion the participants are given a certificate that they can provide to an employer.
  • Counseling/teaching in both spiritual and life affairs.

Future expansion of this project will include:

  • English language program.
  • Medical and Dental clinic.
  • Literacy program.
  • Development of future locations around East Africa.
